Kogi governor hammers on workers welfare, productivity in civil service »

Kogi State Governor has hammered on his administration’s efforts to improve on the welfare of workers in the state as it was also seeking to ensure that the service becomes more productive.

Governor Bello made this known on Monday in a meeting at the glass house with Nigerian Labour leaders which included leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Trade Unions and others.

The Governor notified that unlike the old order he would never play politics of insincerity with the labour union by making false promises in a bid to win election.

He explained that all of the request put forward by the unions are premiumsed on available resources noting that his government has so far ensured the judicious use of the meager funds that its get.

He reiterated that his government inherited fundamental issues which was its responsibility to proffer solutions to, stating that it would not be fair to criticize a government trying to solve these long standing problems.

The Governor asserted that the journey of making kogi state great has begun and everyone have to play their parts in delivering to the future generation a state they would be proud to reckon with.

Governor Bello affirmed that beyond salary payment it was his government responsibility to manage financial and human capitals effectively in order to ensure economic sustainability.

On other issues raised by Labour, he called for round table discussions with concerned stakeholders so as to jointly chart a cause which would foster mutual interests and benefits for the state, workers and the people.

NLC chairman Comrade Onuh Edoka in his remarks thanked the Governor for bringing about an attitudinal change into the civil service through his reforms particularly the screening exercise.

He reaffirmed that the administration judiciously utilized the 30.8billion naira bail out based on agreement both parties had before the release of the fund by the Federal Government.

The labour leader warned anyone against playing politics with the civil service by peddling lies noting that any political party was free to meet with the union to present their plans for the state’s workers for considerations.

While he affirmed that Kogi State Civil servants were with the Governor of the State, he pleaded for the government to put the workers in consideration again whenever it received a large amount from any coffers.
